No obligation. We'll get back to you as soon as we can, usually before the end of the same day.

We service and repair the heat pumps we've installed around Invercargill, Otatara and Bluff. A yearly check keeps filters and coils clean, catches salt-air corrosion early, and keeps the unit heating hard all winter. Call 03 244 7345 to book yours.

Why salt air and damp make servicing worth it here

Invercargill sits right in the path of the southerlies off Foveaux Strait, and that air carries salt. On coastal streets in Bluff and Otatara it works away at the outdoor unit's coil and casing faster than you'd see further inland. A clean coil and a quick corrosion check once a year keeps the unit shifting heat properly instead of struggling.

Most homes down here are older and single-glazed, so the heat pump is working hard from May through to spring. Dust, damp and grime build up on the filters and slowly choke airflow, which means higher power bills and a room that never quite gets warm. If you're weighing up a bigger unit or wondering whether yours is even the right fit, the different types of heat pump suit different homes, and a service is a good time to talk through it.

What we check when we service your heat pump

A proper service is more than a quick wipe of the filters. We go through the whole unit so small problems don't turn into cold-winter breakdowns.

  • Clean the filters and check them for damage
  • Wash down the indoor and outdoor coils
  • Check the outdoor unit for salt corrosion and clear any debris
  • Test operating temperatures and refrigerant pressures
  • Clear the drain so it doesn't leak or block up
  • Check mounts, fittings and electrical connections are tight and sound

When a service turns into a repair

Sometimes a service uncovers something bigger, like a corroded fan, a failing sensor or a slow refrigerant leak. We handle heat pump repairs on the units we've fitted, from a straightforward part swap to sorting out a unit that's icing over. If it's a Mitsubishi Electric heat pump we installed, we can usually get genuine parts without a long wait.

Whole-home systems need the same care. If you've got one of our ducted heat pumps, we check the ducting and vents too, since a blocked run can leave one end of the house cold while the rest is toasty.

Thinking about a new heat pump instead of nursing an old one

If your unit is well past its best and needs repair after repair, replacing it often makes more sense than pouring money into it. A right-sized, tidy install beats brand grunt every time, and we size the unit to your actual rooms rather than selling you the biggest box on the shelf. You can see what a fresh setup involves on our heat pump installation page, and get a feel for the numbers with our guide to heat pump installation cost.

When you're ready, get in touch about a new heat pump and we'll come out, look at your home and give you a straight quote.

Heat pump servicing questions, answered

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year is about right for most homes, ideally in autumn before you lean on it all winter. Down here on the coast, the salt air means it pays to also give the filters a wipe every month or two yourself. If the unit runs long hours, a yearly professional check keeps it efficient.

Why is my heat pump not heating properly?

Usually it's airflow. A clogged filter or a coil packed with grime stops the unit moving heat, so rooms stay cool. It can also be low refrigerant, an iced-up outdoor unit, or a unit that was undersized for the room in the first place. A service will tell you which, and most causes are a quick fix.

Do you service heat pumps you did not install?

No. We only service and repair the heat pumps we installed ourselves. That way we know exactly how the unit was sized, wired and fitted, and we stand behind that work. If another company fitted yours, the honest option is a fresh, right-sized install from us, and then we'll look after it long term.

How do I keep my heat pump running efficiently in winter?

Clean or wipe the filters every month or two, especially with our damp air. Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and debris, and don't let anything block the airflow inside. Set a steady, sensible temperature rather than cranking it up and down, and book a proper service once a year to keep the coils clean.
