The suburbs and towns we cover

Most of our work sits inside greater Invercargill, from Waikiwi and Windsor through to the older streets closer to town. From there we head out to the coast and the towns folk drive in from.

Here's the short version of our regular patch:

  • Invercargill city and suburbs like Waikiwi and Windsor
  • Otatara, just over the estuary
  • Bluff, down on the coast
  • Winton, north up State Highway 6
  • Riverton and nearby coastal spots

Why Southland homes need the right size unit

Our winters are long and the frosts are hard, and the southerlies coming off Foveaux Strait carry a damp cold that gets into everything. A heat pump that's fine in Auckland can end up undersized down here, running flat out on the coldest mornings and never quite catching up.

That's why we size for the worst of it, not the average. We look at the room, the ceiling height, and how well the place holds heat before we recommend anything. You can read how we handle heat pump installation in Invercargill from the site visit through to the tidy-up.

Older villas and newer builds heat differently

A lot of Invercargill homes are single-glazed villas and bungalows that lose heat through the windows and gaps as fast as you put it in. They can still heat well with a heat pump, but the unit often needs to be a touch bigger and pointed at the room you actually live in.

Newer, better-sealed builds are easier. They hold warmth, so a smaller unit does the job and runs cheaper. Either way we'll tell you straight what your place needs, and we're upfront about heat pump installation cost so there are no surprises when the quote lands.

Help paying for it

If money's tight, the Warmer Kiwi Homes grant can cover a good chunk of a heat pump for eligible homeowners, usually those with a Community Services Card or in a lower-income area. It's run through EECA, and you apply to them directly. We're not an EECA provider, so we can't sign you up, but we're happy to fit a unit once you've sorted your funding.

Common questions about where we work

What areas do you install heat pumps in around Invercargill?

We install right across greater Invercargill, including suburbs like Waikiwi and Windsor, plus Otatara over the estuary. From the city we also head out to the coast and the nearby towns. If you're not sure whether you're in our patch, send us your address and we'll let you know.

Do you install heat pumps in Bluff and Winton?

Yes. Bluff and Winton are both on our regular run, along with Riverton and the towns between. The coastal spots get the full brunt of the southerly, so we'll take extra care sizing your unit for those cold, damp days.

Do you cover rural Southland properties?

We do cover a lot of rural Southland, but it depends how far out you are. Give us a call with your location and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get to you and what it looks like. We'd rather be straight up front than promise a job we can't reach.
